Beer and music are natural companions. Visit most any beer festival across the United States and you are almost certain to find live music as part of the attractions, often with multiple bands playing on several stages. Stone Brewing is also a fan of music and its latest collaboration beer is one that’s a little out of the ordinary, at least for most other breweries. The beer is Punk in Drublic Hoppy Lager, a beer brewed between Stone Brewing and Fat Mike, the lead vocalist for the punk rock band NOFX.
It’s not every day that a brewery partners with a lead singer from a punk rock band to create a new beer, but as any craft beer fan already knows, Stone Brewing is not a company known for following traditional business practices. The same could be said for Fat Mike and NOFX, so when the opportunity to work together was presented, Stone Brewing jumped at the chance and a new beer was born.
Punk in Drublic Hoppy Lager is named after the beer and music festival of the same name and it has been described as an eminently drinkable and refreshing beer with a hop kick. Jeremy Moynier, Senior Innovation Brewing Manager at Stone Brewing, describes the beer as quaffable, but in a craft beer way.
“Crisp, clean, and very refreshing, this beer is crushable, but not corporate, tasteless crushable. It has a traditional pilsner aroma with malt and melon flavors leading into a medium bitter finish. We brewed with Magnum and Hull Melon hops, the latter of which is a newer hop variety out of Germany that results in classic pilsner qualities with a nice hoppy finish”, said Moynier.
Punk in Drublic Hoppy Lager is a limited release beer slated for distribution to California, Arizona, Idaho, and Washington state to coincide with locations for the Punk in Drublic Beer and Music Festival, scheduled for Tacoma, WA, Boise ID, Phoenix AZ, Concord CA, Sacramento CA< and Huntington Beach CA. The beer weighs in at a modest 5.8 percent alcohol by volume and 47 IBU, making it, well, quite crushable to borrow a description. It’s a collaboration effort between two entities with interests and experiences that overlap and it’s bound to be a hit with Stone Brewing fans.
