Stone Brewing is one of the foremost names in craft beer and its regular lineup is reason enough to add its beers to your usual drinking rotation. But Stone Brewing’s special release beers are often even better and one of the most highly anticipated of the year was just released a few days ago. I’m talking about Drew Curtis / Wil Wheaton / Greg Koch Stone Farking Wheaton w00tstout.
Farking Wheaton w00tstout is a big beer that is delicious to its core and features label art that is almost as compelling as the brew itself. Actor Wil Wheaton, one of the beer’s collaborators, says this beer is great in countless ways, one of which is its ability to improve over time.
“W00tstout is more than a great beer,” says Wheaton. “It’s a work of art, carefully designed to be as drinkable right now as it will be in a decade. I am so honored and proud to be one of its parents.”
The label art adorning each package of Farking Wheaton w00tstout comes straight to us from comic artist Alan Davis, a man who has worked with several of the most popular and iconic comic book series known to humans, among them Uncanny X-Men and Justice League of America. For the beer artwork, Davis depicts a hero who relies on Stone Brewing’s familiar gargoyle to do battle against the evils of the world of craft beer.
The artwork is certainly cool, but even more impressive is the liquid itself and Stone Brewing co- founder Greg Koch enthusiastically praises this collaboration and considers it one of the brewery’s best.
“I love love love this beer,” said Koch. “I love the intensity and depth of its flavor profile, and I love how it came together between Drew, Wil, me and our brewing team. And fans have made it clear that they love this beer all the way to the depths of its awesomeness like we do. Yeah, I love that too.”
Stone Farking Wheaton w00tstout is brewed using flaked rye and pecans. The beer is aged in bourbon barrels and packs a punch with 11.5 percent alcohol by volume. In this past, this special release was available only in bottles and on draft, but this year, Stone is adding six packs of 12 oz. cans to the packaging mix. It won’t be around for long, so grab a metal can sixer or bottles of this one of a kind imperial stout while supplies last.
