
Stone Brewing wrote the book on West Coast style IPA and its regular lineup of Stone IPA, Ruination Double IPA, and others have set the tone for this California brewery and still serve as benchmarks of their respective styles. These IPA all share one fact in common: They boast higher than average alcohol by volume. Now, Stone Brewing is ready to reverse this trend with a low abv beer that still delivers on the taste. It’s Stone Neverending Haze IPA, an IPA that weighs in at only 4 percent alcohol by volume yet still delivers the taste.
Neverending Haze IPA is the first in the 2020 Stone Pilot Series Program, which is a set of special release beers that vie for inclusion in Stone’s regular lineup. This beer is Stone’s haziest brew to date and it features a golden/orange hue with aromas of citrus and flowers. The taste continues the complexity, with flavors such as orange, lime, pineapple, oats, and strawberries.
With such an interesting flavor and aroma profile, one might wonder what led to the creation of such an unusual personality. Well, it turns out that the yeast led the way. Stone Brewing’s Senior Manager of Small Batch Brewing and Innovation, Steve Gonzalez, was let loose to study and experiment with different yeast strains for the past several years. He came across a strain of Norwegian yeast known as Voss Kveik- a strain that produces flavors such as orange citrus, which happens to complement the Mosaic and Citra hops in a most friendly and constructive way. It all adds up to an intense beer without all the alcohol- perfect when you want to down a few beers and still maintain control.
Stone Brewing Neverending Haze IPA is a special release beer and is available in six packs and twelve packs of 12 oz. cans, and on draft. The beer was released in the California markets starting on December 16, 2019 and nationwide on January 1, 2020 nationwide. It’s a beer that will forever change the way you view low- alcohol beers and a beer you don’t want to miss, so seek it out and try it while it’s available.
