California’s iconic Stone Brewing has released more beers over its 20- plus years in existence than I can count. I look forward to all of the new creations from this Escondido- based brewing operation, but I love Stone’s core lineup and classic brands just as strongly. One of those classic beers from the past is about to make a comeback. Stone fans, let me re- introduce you to Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous Black IPA back for a limited run.
Stone Brewing gets requests to revive past beers on a regular basis, but there is something uniquely special about Sublimely Self- Righteous Black IPA. Could it be the raspberry/orange hop character? The coffee and chocolate flavors supplied by the malts? The nose of black currant and pine? It’s certainly a complex beer and its uniqueness and loyal following has had Stone Brewing fans in a tizzy since it was discontinued many years ago.
Stone’s Senior Marketing Content Specialist David Pope says that, among all of Stone’s products from the past, Sublimely Self- Righteous Black IPA receives the greatest talk and the most requests for revival.
“We get ‘BRING BACK SSR’ comments on just about everything we post to socials,” said Pope. “Pictures of Stone IPA, videos of our bottling line, a clip of a kitten playing in a Stone Buenaveza box… there’s always a ‘BRING BACK SSR’ somewhere in the comment section. Well, we heard you. It’s awesome to finally reply back with an enthusiastic ‘OK!’”
Stone Sublimely Self- Righteous Black IPA was originally released in 2007 and we at Great Beer Now agree that it is one of our all- time Stone favorites, past or present. Stone Brewing fans agree that this beer deserves another run but since it is available only in limited release, it may not be around for long. It is available in six packs of 12 oz. bottles an in individual 22 oz. glass bottles. Be sure to seek out this Stone brewing classic where Stone Brewing beer is presently sold or use the Stone’s Beer Finder to locate the beer near you.
