Napa, California is synonymous with wine but the picturesque city and famous valley in which it resides are about to get injected with an adult beverage of a different sort.
Stone Brewing, the Escondido- based craft brewery known for its flavorful, innovative brews, has started renovations on an historic building in downtown Napa. The 10,000 square foot Borreo building will become the future home to another Stone Tap Room and Stone Brewing co- founder Greg Koch says it’s a perfect match for his company.
“The historic Borreo building is the perfect space for us to put down our roots in Napa,” said Koch. “Not only is it literally made of stone, it’s one of downtown’s most iconic links to the 19th century and a landmark that’s been vacant for the past 15 years. We recognize the high quality of wine that comes from the region and the appreciation that Napa Valley locals and visitors have for fresh, well-crafted drink. We are elated to become a contributing part of such an artisanal town.”
This latest addition to the Stone family will be located on the corner of 3rd Street and Soscol Avenue and will include a 10- barrel pilot brewing system, restaurant service, growler fills, and Stone Brewing merchandise. Stone’s year- round beers will be available here as well as special release beers. Stone brewing prides itself in sourcing locally and bringing the personality of the local area into its food and drink recipes. This tradition will continue at the Napa location with food prepared using local, farm fresh ingredients.
The Borreo building is unique and befitting of Stone’s presence for many reasons, but the fact that it’s made from actual stone has to rank highly. The Italian Renaissance designed structure was made using native cut stone and was built in 1877. It has great historical significance, but has remained vacant since 2001. Koch says the plans are to keep most of the historical aspects of the building in place while revamping the interior, adding doors to the western wall of the building, opening up to a large garden facing the Napa River.
“I’m a huge Napa fan,” said Koch. “I’ve been visiting for more than 20 years and I first toured through the Borreo Building nearly five years ago. We’ve tried a few times to make something happen there, and are thrilled to finally see it come to fruition!”
Expect to discover and visit the new Stone Brewing Tap Room- Napa in 2017.
