Craft beer is all about community. With the wildfires, mudslides, and other natural disasters taking place in the state of California, craft breweries have rallied to assist those in need. San Diego’s Stone Brewing distributing division, Stone Distributing Co., and the many craft brands it represents, are donating a portion of sales to benefit the people in Santa Barbara County who have been gravely impacted by the fires and mudslides. The donations will be made to Direct Relief, the organization that is currently providing emergency services in the area.
Funding for the donation is coming from Stone Brewing and its many partners. MadeWest Brewing Co. in Ventura and Silva Brewing in Paso Robles are among those contributing to the cause. Stone Brewing is stepping up to the plate, donating $1 of every pint or growler fill of Stone IPA from its three locations: Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens, Stone Brewing Taproom and Stone Company Store. The month- long fundraising effort is spearheaded by Stone with contributions from:
- Julian Hard Cider
- Kern River Brewing Company
- Mikkeller San Diego
- Victory Brewing Company
- Smog City Brewing Company
Dominic Engels, Stone Brewing CEO, says the effort to help those in need is what the craft beer community is all about.
“Our hearts are heavy for the communities affected by the fires, and now mud slides, in Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties,” said Engels, Stone Brewing CEO expressed. “The craft brewing community has always been of the mindset that our collective efforts are more important than that of our individual needs and this is no exception. These communities really need our help, and given the good nature of our supplier partners and craft beer fans, we’re well positioned to provide financial support for their long recovery ahead.”
Stone Brewing has a solid track record of philanthropy. Last year, Stone raised $72,000 to help wildfire victims in Sonoma and Napa Counties. And over the course of its existence as a business, Stone Brewing has donated over $3 million to charitable causes.
California is still reeling from the devastating effects of these recent natural disasters. Stone Brewing’s efforts to assist those in need once again illustrates the spirit of community that sets the craft brewing industry apart from others.
