Summer has arrived and with the change in seasons comes a change in seasonal beer. We usually associate summer seasonal beers with lighter, more refreshing character and one beer fit for the occasion is Stone Notorious P.O.G. Berliner Weisse, a beer brewed with passion fruit, guava, and orange.
Notorious P.O.G. isn’t a brand-new beer, as Stone Brewing fans are fully aware. This summer brew has, in fact, been around for a few years and has grown to become a cult favorite. Its roots can be traced to 2016 when actor and comedian Jonah Ray partnered with Stone brewer Kris Ketcham to create a new collaboration beer at the Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens. Ray, who is from Hawaii, was weaned on POG Juice, a popular drink among Hawaiians. The two men decided to incorporate this into a new beer and it quickly grew into a smash hit with fans. Initially, the new beer was available only at the World Bistro, but popular demand led to national distribution starting in 2019.
Jonah Ray says the new beer was intended to honor his homeland, and his father’s good taste.
“This beer is dedicated to my homeland, the islands of Hawaii,” said Ray. “It’s also dedicated to my dad who used to pour a little bit of booze into his PASSION ORANGE GUAVA juice on the weekends. LOOK DAD! I’VE COMBINED THE TWO!”
Stone Notorious P.O.G. Berliner Weisse emphasizes the great taste of tropical fruits with a nose of citrus, tropical fruits, and a touch of honey. Look for it where Stone Brewing products are sold and get your hands on it while you can- it is only available for a limited time.
