Tennessee Brew Works, the innovative Nashville- based craft brewery, has announced a partnership that will result in a new beer made entirely with Tennessee grown grains.
The new beer is called Tennessee State Park Blonde Ale and it involves contributions from Tennessee Brew Works and Batey Farms. The announcement was made during a press conference that included representatives from the Tennessee Department of Agriculture and Tennessee State Parks along with Batey Farms and Tennessee Brew Works. Tennessee Brew Works President Christian Spears says the partnership is one that he hopes will inspire others across the state to form similar partnerships for the betterment of the Tennessee economy.
“Our ultimate goal is to entice breweries, distilleries and farms around the state to participate; creating economies of scale that benefit all of us and bring our industries closer to agricultural self-sufficiency within Tennessee. The potential of this initiative is limitless,” said Spears.
Batey Farms is a family owned farm located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee that produces malted barley, grown and cultivated directly on the farm. This 8th generation business will supply Tennessee Brew Works with the necessary grains to brew its beer. Previously, Tennessee Brew Works relied on farms from other states, Canada, Belgium, Germany, and the United Kingdom to supply its malted barley and other grains. The business partnership between Tennessee Brew Works and Batey Farms is, in fact, an expansion of an existing relationship that actually began in 2015 when Batey started to supply Tennessee Brew Works with wheat for certain beers.
Now, in 2018, the partnership has expanded and Tennessee Brew Works State Park Blonde Ale is only the beginning of an ongoing product development initiative. In a week, Tennessee Brew Works plans to expand its all- Tennessee grain offerings to a second beer, Southern Wit, a Belgian style white ale. The locally sourced beers will only continue to grow in the coming years, so be sure to check Tennessee Brew Works web site or follow on Facebook for the latest updates.
