Barrel- aged beers are part of many craft beer offerings and while most any type of liquor barrel can and has been used for aging beer, arguably the best choice is whiskey. And Tennessee Brew Works in Nashville, Tennessee is ready to release a new barrel- aged brew using barrels from a Tennessee distillery.
George Dickel has been distilling Tennessee- style whiskey since 1870 and its George Dickel 12 has been the go- to of Tennessee whiskey fans for ages. The new Tennessee Brew Works Beer utilizes George Dickel 12 barrels and is appropriately named using the same “12” descriptor. The beer is Tenn No. 12 Belgian Style Quad and it has been described as a deep mahogany colored beer with a nose of plum, toffee, and a hint of tobacco. The taste features flavors such as caramel, toffee, plum, and figs with background flavors of oak and a dry finish.
A new barrel- aged beer is cause for celebration and Tennessee Brew Works is planning a launch event for this new beer on Saturday, August 25 in the Tennessee Brew Works Taproom located at 809 Ewing Ave in Nashville, TN. The new brew will be available in 22 oz. bomber bottles starting at 11 am Central Time. The next opportunity to get your hands on this barrel aged beauty will be at Cascade Hollow Distilling’s Porch Sessions with Lucie Silvas, scheduled for September 8, 2018. Attendance at this event will require advance tickets, which are available through dickelporchsessions.com.
Barrel- aged beers are a taste to behold and we at Great Beer Now have been fans of George Dickel 12 for more than a decade. I’ve always liked it more than the better- known and more widely consumed Jack Daniels and it’s cool that Tennessee Beer Works is partnering with these masters of Tennessee Whiskey to produce a barrel- aged brew. If you live in the Nashville, Tennessee area, be sure to stop by the taproom or the Porch Sessions event (or both) and taste this delicious barrel- aged brew for yourself.
