Upslope Brewing has been thrilling the craft beer community with innovative, tasty brew since 2008. Many may not recall, but the Upslope era began when the brewery released Upslope Pale Ale to the people living in its home base of Boulder, Colorado. This balanced, respectable pale ale was beloved by locals and it helped launch the brewery into a multi- state business, with distribution to seven states and solid prospects for future growth.
Upslope Pale Ale was and still is well- received by craft beer fans. But times change and with any business, products inevitably change, too. This is why Upslope is bidding farewell to its flagship Pale Ale and replacing it with a new beer, Upslope Citra Pale Ale. Upslope founder Matt Cutter says the decision is the result of eight years of experience and the desire to continue evolving as a dynamic business.
“The decision to retire the one that started it all and introduce a new style to our lineup in its place comes from our dedication to experimentation and creativity,” says Cutter. “This beer represents our best foot forward and the spirit of what happens when we continue to hone our craft, keep our sights on the future and listen to what our fans want.”
Citra Pale Ale, as you might have already guessed, derives its name from the inclusion of Citra hops in the brewing process. This American style pale ale is big on citrus, with flavors and aromas of grapefruit and tropical fruit. The final statistics on this new beer are almost exactly the same as those of the original pale ale: 5.8 percent alcohol by volume and 37 IBU of bitterness for Citra Pale Ale, compared to 5.8 percent alcohol by volume and 36 IBU for Upslope Pale Ale.
Upslope fans anxious to sample this new beer are encouraged to attend the Sneak Preview Party scheduled for Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. at Hops and Pie in Denver, Colorado. In the hometown of Boulder, Upslope Citra Pale Ale will be available on tap and in 12-ounce six packs to-go at a special Release Party at Upslope’s Flatiron Park tap room. The festive occasion is set for Thursday, January 26 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Upslope Citra Pale Ale will release to the brewery’s seven state market- Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, and Texas- on February 1, 2017. To learn more about Upslope’s newest year- round brew, visit http://upslopebrewing.com/beer/citra-pale-ale/
