Victory Brewing Company, one of the nation’s finest purveyors of craft brew, has another new beer to add to its diverse lineup. The new beer is Selene Saison, a wild-fermented farmhouse-style dark saison, introduced September 1 and available while supplies last.
Selene Saison is a complex beer- a darker version of the farmhouse ales that continue to show up at breweries and in bars across the United States. The beer gets its name from Selene, the Greek Goddess of the moon and it offers an out-of-this-world taste experience that combines chocolate, cloves, rye, herbs, and yeasty funk. The beer is brewed using pale, pale chocolate, rye, and pilsner malts along with East Kent Goldings hops and two strains of Brettanomyces and Blaugies yeast. Victory Brewing founder and brewmaster Bill Covaleski says the beer was developed as a contrasting sidekick to Victory Helios Ale, which is lighter in color and more traditional to the farmhouse style.
“When we were dreaming up Selene Saison we had a great canvas in Helios Ale. Because Farmhouse-styles focus on individuality, we had a lot of creative license to make an enjoyable, yet completely unique, Saison. We wanted to showcase the dark side foil against the sunny side of Helios which resulted in a delicious, wild-fermented celebration of the season for all to enjoy,” says Covaleski.
Victory Selene Saison weighs in at 7.5 percent alcohol by volume and is available in 750 ml bottles as well as on draft. It was brewed in very limited supply so grab yourself a bottle while you can.
