Pennsylvania’s Victory Brewing Company has a new beer and it’s one that is perfect for the warm weather season before us. The new beer is called Cage Radler, a lighter, thirst-quenching lager with a lemony flavor and low alcohol level, making it perfect for a day in the sun. Radler, which is German for ‘cyclist’, invokes images of the great outdoors and Cage Radler, with its use of real lemons, is the perfect companion to an outdoor excursion. Victory Brewing President and Brewmaster Bill Covaleski is convinced this beer will match perfectly with the summer weather that lies ahead.
“Addressing our consumers’ thirst for quality and innovation is our pleasure and we expect to deliver plenty of summertime pleasure with this release. Ready to enjoy with all outdoor activities, Cage Radler, delivers quenching flavor and on-the-go convenience with cans as well as bottles,” said Covaleski.
Radler as a beer style dates back to the early 1900’s. The idea can be traced to June, 1922 when Franz Xaver Kugler was running low on beer and needed something to satisfy the thirsts of his hotel’s guests, which just happened to be cyclists. With little time to think, he decided to combine German dunkel lager with lemon- lime soda. The resulting drink was refreshing and satisfying to guests. From that point forward, a new beer style, the radler, was born.
Radlers are growing in popularity and today, they often consist of a 50/50 mixture of beer and soda of different flavors, but with an emphasis on fruity tasting soft drinks. They are popular as a session beer for those with active lifestyles and others who want something that tastes like beer but without much alcohol. Victory’s Cage Radler continues this tradition but instead of combining a soft drink, the beer is made using all natural ingredients including fresh lemons, pilsner malts, and Tettnang Mittelfrueh hops. The resulting beverage contains only 3 percent alcohol by volume making it a perfect choice when you want to taste beer, cool off, and enjoy your beverage without feeling the effects of alcohol.
Cage Radler is available throughout Victory’s 37 state distribution footprint and is sold in 6 packs of 12 oz. cans and on draft. It will also be offered as part of Victory Brewing’s Summer Selection’s Variety 12- Pack.
