Oktoberfest beer fans will be happy to hear that one of America’s greatest craft breweries is ready for the release of one of its annual, seasonal favorites.
Victory Brewing Company, the Pennsylvania- based brewery that strives for innovation but maintains respect for tradition, is proud to announce the return of Festbier, an Oktoberfest amber brew. This annual beer has been satisfying consumers and winning over new fans every year since it debuted in 1996. Not only is it one of the longest running Oktoberfest beers in the United States, but it also holds another unique distinction: It was Victory’s first beer, making Victory one of the very few craft breweries to start off with a marzen- style brew. The fact that it was first means it has special significance to Victory Brewing founder and brewmaster, Bill Covaleski.
“Festbier has a special place in my heart, as it expresses the purpose of beer, as a source of comfort and conviviality, so well,” said Covaleski. “It was the very first beer we ever brewed at Victory. We knew we wanted to create a true Oktoberfest lager and the pride I have in that first beer still powers me, and all our brewers, to continue to create good, thoughtfully crafted beers that will not only quench the thirst of our fans, but make every dinner, party, or chat with a friend over a pint that much more enjoyable.”
Festbier is brewed using traditional German processes and European ingredients. The beer starts off with imported German malts, namely two- row Vienna and Munich malts, with whole flower German hops. The beer undergoes a decoction brewing process, a technique common in Europe and known for its ability to create a maltier flavor presence, which is exactly the taste profile one expects with an Oktoberfest beer.
