Rooftop bars offer an atmosphere few other establishments can match, not to mention amazing views of the surrounding area. Few American cities can match the urban views of Chicago and on Monday, September 24, a new destination will open in Chicago, complete with open, 22nd floor views as VU Rooftop Bar marks its debut at 133 East Cermak, above McCormick Place.
VU is presented by the James Beard nominated Concentrics Restaurant Group and it will be the South Loop’s first rooftop bar. Situated with open views in two directions, it will feature the Chicago skyline on one side and the Lake Michigan lakefront in the other. VU Rooftop Bar will sport 13,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space, including a karaoke room, club bar, boardroom, and solarium bar. The menu at VU will be designed by acclaimed Executive Chef Nolan Narut and it will offer shareable plates while the beverage program, headed by Advanced Sommelier John Williams, will focus on locally sourced drinks.
VU Rooftop Bar promises to wow its guests from the moment they step inside. The initial impressions provided by a pair of floor to ceiling lights, meant to accent the 15 foot ceilings, are bound to be mesmerizing and mood- enhancing. The island bar will feature 40 stools with a wood oven in the middle. A video wall will engulf the entire 100 foot length of the interior space and a mural titled “Hidden Figures”, created by artist Todd Murphy, is certain to capture guests’ eyes and attention as they take in the unique atmosphere surrounding them.
With a name like VU, the main reason many will visit will, of course, be for the views and the VU Rooftop Bar won’t disappoint. The bar is planned with two terraces; one with views of Lake Michigan, Soldier Field, and other attractions and one with views of the Chicago skyline. The views are going to be memorable for sure, but the inside will be equally impressive, with fire pits, a water and fire fountain, and comfortable seating.
The VU will be open seven days per week, with Sunday through Thursday hours between 4 pm and 1pm and Friday/Saturday hours from 4 pm to 2 am. It’s going to be a gathering and entertainment venue like few others, so mark your calendars for September 24 and make your way to the VU Rooftop Bar for one of the finest dining/drinking establishments in the Chicago area.
