In these days of social distancing, breweries are doing what they can to keep the craft beer crowd interested and one way is with new product releases. Utah’s Wasatch Brewery is one of the better-known craft breweries around and they are helping keep the craft beer spirit of innovation alive with the release of a new beer, Guava Rosa, a Mexican inspired ale.
Brewed with real guava, this beer was inspired by a visit to Mexico. Wasatch made the trek with folks from Oskar Blues Brewery to help create a collaboration beer with Cerveza Loba, a brewery located in Guadalajara, Mexico. Wasatch partnered with not just Cerveza Loba, but also with Oskar Blues to create a special beer to celebrate its seventh anniversary. While there, Wasatch Brewmaster Jon Lee took a quick liking to Loba Paraiso, a popular beer brewed by Cerveza Loba. This beer utilizes large quantities of guava and Lee was inspired to brew a guava- enhanced beer of his own once back in Utah.
Guava Rosa is the type of beer that matches up well with a warm sunny day. “Guava Rosa drinks like a cocktail but with the heart of a beer, and this is what I’ll be reaching for all summer long,” said Lee. And since this is a fruity brew, it will find itself right at home in the Wasatch lineup, one that already includes the brewery’s immensely popular, year- round release Apricot Hefeweizen and the memorable seasonal beer, Pickup Lime.
Wasatch Guava Rosa is a little more potent than other fruity brews. Weighing in at 7.1 percent alcohol by volume, it eclipses the alcoholic punch of most other summer brews and exceeds the alcohol level normally associated with a session beer. Like Brewmaster Lee says, this is a beer that ‘drinks like a cocktail’ and it makes a good choice for those craft beer fans looking for something a little beyond the usual summer seasonal.
Guava Rosa is available in stores right now. Sold in 6- packs of 12 oz. cans, it will be available for the season and won’t last long so be sure to grab yourself a sixer while it’s still available.
