Beer travel has become increasingly popular as a means to explore different parts of the United States and sample the different beers brewed from one region to the next. A few craft beer establishments have heightened the experience by opening their own places of lodging and now, Scottish brewer BrewDog is ready to do the same, with plans to open a crowdfunded craft beer hotel like no other before it, right next door to the new BrewDog brewery in Columbus, Ohio.
This new hotel will be known as The DogHouse and it will take the idea of beer travel and beer lodging to unforeseen levels. The building will house a beer spa complete with beer- based treatments. Each room will sport is own tap, serving BrewDog’s flagship Punk IPA. There will even be a beer fridge in the shower so you can sip on the beverage you love, while you bathe. And those who opt for the luxury suite will have their own hot tub, right in the room, filled with Punk IPA, for a malty and hoppy spa treatment certain to nourish the skin in untold ways.
BrewDog CEO and cofounder James Watt says the decision to build a beer hotel is the result of encouragement from fans who would love a memorable vacation where beer takes center stage at every turn.
“Beer geeks around the world have been crying out for a beer hotel since we first floated the idea on social media, so we’re going to kick-start the most ambitious project we’ve ever planned, all with the backing of our global community of beer fans,” said Watt. “From the hop oil face masks and malted barley massages – to the beer-infused breakfasts and built-in shower beer fridge – The DogHouse will be a mecca for those craft beer geeks seeking a vacation with a difference. Every single part of your stay at The DogHouse will be absolutely dominated by hops, malt and incredible beer. Forget Disneyland, this is the new happiest place on Earth”, Watt added.

The beer theme will not end with the rooms and spa treatments. It will continue to the meals served, with three- course breakfasts, lunches, and dinners all made with beer and paired with beer.
To help kick start such ambitious plans, Brewdog is launching an Indiegogo campaign, with the goal to raise $75,000 in 30 days. BrewDog, as many already know, has been extremely successful with its previous crowdfunding efforts and there is no reason to believe that this latest effort will be any different. Its Equity for Punks investment program, which by the way is still open to US investors until Summer 2017, broke global efforts for crowdfunding and The DogHouse will likely continue this trend.
Besides the hotel, BrewDog has another expansionary effort that it plans to begin along with place of lodging. The Scottish outfit wants to add a sour brewing facility and will welcome hotel guests to sample the new beers as they become available. In addition, each room will have an interior window with open views of the oak foeders used to age the beers. And, of course, guests will be able to take private brewery tours of the main brewing facility, scheduled to open later in 2017.
Beer travel is one of my favorite activities and The Doghouse will certainly rank highly on my must- visit places when it opens in 2018. It’s another innovative and extremely cool idea from BrewDog, one of the world’s foremost names in outside-the-box craft beer. Check out the Indiegogo campaign and help make the Doghouse and sour brewing facility a reality. And do your part to drive the craft beer revolution to victory.
