HOUSTON (Nov. 3, 2014) On Thursday, Nov. 6, the Whole Foods Market Post Oak store will open at the corner of San Felipe and Post Oak streets after a 7:30 a.m. grand opening and bread breaking ceremony. During the bread breaking ceremony, Micheal Mead, Post Oak Store Team Leader, will present a Whole Kids Foundation garden grant to St. George Place Elementary School as well as a check from the proceeds of the preview party on Tuesday to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
The 55,000 square-foot store will open its doors offering a full range of high quality natural and organic foods including a vast assortment of more than 500 locally sourced offerings and more than 300 organic produce items. The store will also feature the company’s first ever in-store brewpub. The first 500 shoppers at the store will receive a reusable Whole Foods Market shopping bag.
As a part of Whole Foods Market’s commitment to the community and in celebration of the store’s opening, the Post Oak store will host a series of 1 percent Community Giving Days during opening week. Guests can support a different local nonprofit each day simply by shopping at the store. For a full listing of opening week partners please visit wholefoodsmarket.com/stores/postoak.
On Thursday, Nov. 6, Whole Foods Market Post Oak will partner with the Star of Hope. Guests will have the opportunity to write notes of encouragement for Houston’s homeless which will be given out this holiday season. Whole Foods Market Post Oak will also donate a pallet of diapers to the children served by Star of Hope. Proceeds from the Community Giving Day will help Star of Hope continue to care for nearly 1,200 of Houston’s homeless men, women and children daily. In addition to basic needs like toothpaste and soap, funds raised will also help Star of Hope provide meals for the homeless.
“Star of Hope is honored to be selected as a community partner for the grand opening of Houston’s newest Whole Foods Market. The donation of a pallet of diapers is appropriate for the birth of a brand new store, and a much needed item at our shelters,” said Star of Hope CEO, Hank Rush. “Their generous financial gift will help us during the holidays as we serve nearly 1,200 homeless men, women and children each day, with immediate crisis care and structured recovery programs focusing on education, recovery from substance abuse, employment and spiritual growth. We look forward to a long and fulfilling relationship with Whole Foods Market as they continue to reach out to the Houston community and the homeless.”
In keeping with Whole Foods Market tradition, the store will include several innovative features including some firsts for Whole Foods Market stores in Houston such as:
· Whole Foods Market Brewing Company, the grocery industry’s first craft brewery inside a grocery store, with 20 beers on tap
