Ska Brewing produces some highly memorable beer and its avid fans droll at the thought of another can of Pinstripe Red Ale or Buster Nut Brown Ale. These year- round favorites have helped solidify Ska Brewing as one of the nation’s best places for craft beer, but Ska has some equally unforgettable seasonal beers and one of them is ready for its annual release. The beer is Dementia, a winter seasonal beer aged in bourbon barrels. Ska Brewing’s head brewer Thomas Larsen says the beer is just right for the cooler days ahead.
“Peach aromas, caramel sweetness and a touch of chocolate and toast provide a boozy and earthy essence,” said Thomas Larsen, Headbrewer. “It is the perfect winter warmer.”
Dementia is actually another Ska Brewing beer in different form. The Durango- based operation started with its own winter pale ale, Euphoria, and added it to bourbon barrels supplied by Peach Street Distillers. Those familiar with Euphoria will notice the resemblance to this popular Ska favorite but they will also notice the added dimension of taste from the barrel aging. Consumers will also notice that the stat sheet for Dementia, showing an alcohol level of 6.2 percent by volume and 45 IBU of bitterness, reveals a beer that is somewhat less aggressive than other barrel aged brews.
Dementia will be sold in 22-oz. bombers for a very limited time and only in Ska Brewing’s five largest markets: Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, So Cal and Illinois. Due to the small supply, it won’t be around for long so grab yourself a bottle when you see it.
