Another major beer awards event is now complete. The World Beer Cup, held this year in Nashville, Tennessee, has concluded another ceremony with Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals awarded to the finest malt beverages in the United States and across the globe.
The Best of the Best
World Beer Cup takes place following the conclusion of the Craft Brewer’s Conference and since it was founded in 1996, it has been held every other year. This year, 2023, marks a change in plans. It is the first time the World Beer Cup has been held in an odd- numbered year and from here forward, the World Beer Cup will be an annual event.
The purpose of this “Olympics of Beer” is to recognize and reward the best beers with Gold, Silver, or Bronze medals. Organized by the Brewers Association, the World Beer Cup is similar in many ways to the Great American Beer Festival, which is also organized by BA. The key difference is that that the Great American Beer Festival is exclusively an American beer competition. The World Beer Cup is global in scope.
Numbers, Numbers
The 2023 World Beer Cup awarded a total of 307 medals this year, with 103 different categories represented. There were a total of 10,213 beers entered into the competition with 2,376 breweries participating. Breweries from a total of 51 different countries entered beers into the competition. American craft breweries dominated the entries, but the international scope of the event continues to widen. And with the World Beer Cup now held annually, this trend is expected to continue.
And the Winners Are
Okay, here is the part of this article that matters most: The winner’s list. Below is a complete summary of all 307 medal winners, sorted by category. The United States took home most of the medals, as expected, but there were winners in lots of foreign countries as well. Here is the list:
